Tim Teven, dutch designer, graduated at Design Academy Eindhoven in 2018. A technical and material driven approach to design together with hands on way of working allows him to play and create in an experimental way. In many of the works the production process is used as a tool to design and a leading aspect to shape the final outcome and function of the object. Treating materials in an unconventional way to rethink the process of making, allows him to find surprising techniques which then can be translated into a functional yet interesting object. Teven works from his design studio based in Eindhoven founded in 2018, where all the objects are hand made with industrial craftsmanship.

PRESSURE VASES

Pressure Vases, 2018 - ongoing In the pressure series Tim Teven uses material deformation under extreme pressure as a tool to design. The deformation of metal by exerting pressure leads to exciting technical details, as well as new optical and haptic qualities. The Pressure Vases are made from standard steel tubes, which when exposed to extreme pressure start to yield. The folds that appear make the normally hard and cold material look soft and tangible.

Usually this deformation is considered to be a defect by the industry. Since the folds clamp in the bottom of the pressure vase, de deformation became a functional detail. Technique developed with self modified hydraulic press in the studio. Available in different sizes, colours and finishes.

PRESSURE BENCH AND STOOL

In the pressure series Tim Teven uses material deformation under extreme pressure as a tool to design. The deformation of metal by exerting pressure leads to exciting technical details, as well as new optical and haptic qualities.

The Pressure Stool and Bench are made of aluminium sheet into which a pattern is pressed. On one hand, the material is hardened, on the other hand, the normally cold and stiff aluminium takes on an unexpectedly soft and pleasant appearance. This technique makes it possible to produce lightweight seating furniture from aluminium only 2mm thick.
