“My work is focused mainly on effect ceramic glazes, where various types of crystals grow in glaze melts. The most known are silica and zinc crystal glazes, which form regular structures of up to several centimeters in the

glaze and can be colored with oxides of various metals. I have also developed new crystal glazes where iron, copper, and molybdenum metallic crystals, as well as crystals with strong illusive effect, grow on the surface. Microscopic crystals play the main role in a set of small matt vases, creating a suede-like surface in the running glaze melt.

Apart from porcelain vases, I also made ceramic furniture shaped from soft extruded profiles. The different type of work involved in processing the malleable clay is also a sort of relaxation for me – compared to the creation of vases, which requires clear, fully focused and precise work where the individual shapes are gradually finished through numerous corrections. I conceive the furniture rather as objects of fine arts inspired by the archetypal shapes present in architecture or applied art; their function is not strictly predetermined, even though most of them can still be used as stools or coffee tables.” - Milan Pekar
