BOBBIE SPECKER

Bobbie Specker is a contemporary ceramicist living Portland, Oregon USA. Her work is both sculptural and functional. She work from a small studio in the northwest urban area of the city.

Mostly self-taught, she is a hand-builder using a slab technique to construct my pieces. With a background in apparel design, she create original patterns that are then cut out of clay slabs. Each clay cutout is individually hand formed and then combined with others to create my finished piece.

With hermethod of hand-building and the nature of the clay, each finished piece can take on its own unexpected and unplanned imperfections. I find this exciting and intriguing. I truly feel it contributes to the overall beauty of a hand formed object.
