AWARÉ is the meeting of the artist Sylvia Eustache Rools and the wood carver Jérôme Pereira. The project was born from their desire to unite  their sensitivities to matter. For him, the carved wood, worked in sets of masses and balance. For her, who delights in making coincide materials and colors, it will be a textile laboratory.

Fascinated by rock, minerals, oxidation phenomena, Sylvia has been working for several years on «textile geology». Through a plural and empirical approach: painting, oxidation, maceration, dyeing, it gives life to chromatic landscapes disturbing the border between artifact and nature.

The transformation process carried out on the immaculate silk, the fruit of multiple layers and stages of work, expresses a temporality and an internal geology. Through this, she explores a mode of sensitive approach to terrestrial memory. The meeting with the sculptor Jérôme Pereira led her to design the AWARÉ project.

Nourished by his scientific background, Jérôme Pereira mobilised an intuitive and sensitive knowledge to the origin of his sculpture work. For the past 20 years, he has been creating sculptures with a raw presence and inventing organic physics made of lines and curves, particles and nuclei, gravity and density.

Beyond the complementarity, in this zone where takes place the fusion, the AWARÉ duet develops a universe mixing wood and textile in raw creations with sensitive materiality. For several years, the AWARÉ* entity has flourished under the artistic direction of Sylvia Eustache Rools. AWARÉ received the Kit Kemp Firmdale “One to watch” award at COLLECT in London in 2018.
