L’atelier Musset is an encounter between one artisan and different designers to create unique contemporary furniture from antique construction wood.

From the tree to the wood, a force of nature becomes a material.

Wood pursues the life of a tree in a temporality that exceeds our existence and forces our contemplation. It is a witness of local history and its unique grain and pattern evidence this history.
The wisdom, this beauty, is all the more visible in wood used for woodworking and carpentry.

This wood that has protected us from the outside, let us bring it into our homes.

At l’Atelier Musset, we invite you to share our contemplation of antique wood.
We value it by shaping this material into contemporary forms that reveal a wealth of details.

During his years as a carpenter in the Association Ouvrière des Compagnons du Devoir (the worker’s tour de France), Timothée Musset had the opportunity to work on historical monuments from which he could approach the ancestral structural woods that had been shaped by hand and then by time.

After a period in a design office, he got the desire to come back close to the material.

He then decided to place himself in a process of transmission, around the sensitivity of woods that had already passed through centuries but left sometimes abandoned. At this time, he created the Atelier Musset. The aim is to show that this specific material only needs to be magnified again, while showing its defects as an integral part of its beauty.

The shapes allow to give a new appearance to the material as a vivid element, a new language. Shapes are essential to attract and look back at the wood in a different way. Once the light is on this furniture, the light changes and looks transformed and warm.

Thus, alone or in collaboration, he aims to set a new approach on what could look quaint, to remember that time does not vanish, he shapes the material down to the smallest details in order that the whole be admired.
