Nobuki HIZUME graduated from Bunka Fashion College with top honors in 2004. Post graduation he acquired skills in European ancestral craftsmanship from Italy, this is when he fell definitely in love with the artisan traditional European craft. Combined with the excellence of his Japanese heritage he decided to develop a career as a milliner.
When he finally moved to Paris in 2009 and began to work for Cheri Bibi, he then started to develop prototypes for the most prestigious couture houses of the capital Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Saint Laurent among others.
He launched his own brand HIZUME in 2020. HIZUME hats are designed and developed in its Paris atelier, fabrics are sourced either locally or in Japan, and most of them are developed in-house or recycled fabrics HIZUME’s original tweed is one of the strengths of this brand.
He is sometimes partnering with leading French hat makers for production. Couture pieces are developed and produced in their atelier. As an initiative for the sustainability of this brand, he works with recycled materials, does not use any real fur, and uses faux fur. Furthermore, as an approach to the manufacturing method, Getting out of the method of producing a lot and selling a lot to reduce the manufacturing cost, he makes his products carefully so that his customers can use them for a longer period of time even if the manufacturing cost is high, and realize sustainability.
Nobuki HIZUME's passion for architecture is a specific perspective of design. It allows him to twist, deconstruct, and be irreverent sometimes towards the classical ways of the hat-making process. The presence of Japanese heritage is noticeable in every part of the process of creation, from the flower arrangement of Ikebana to the culture of Origami, Bonsai, and Zen. Samurai culture is probably the strongest influence on the brand. Nobuki HIZUME is the first and only Japanese designer who received the Meilleur Ouvrier de France award for Modiste in 2019. He contributes to perpetuating the excellence and know-how of an ancestral French industry.
